23 Things

I definitely learned a great deal from 23 Things. I made a mistake in starting the program before the December holidays since it meant that I often did not have time to keep up with the program. Since I was so far behind, I almost quit, but knew that I was pitifully ignorant of many Web 2.0 features. I definitely enjoyed learning some new skills. I must say that some lessons I struggled with, but suspect if I was to repeat the course I would learn many other skills now that I'm a bit more confident.

I found myself very concerned about placing personal data on Facebook or allowing unknown people to connect to my blog. Yet I was also stunned to find about 25 of my high school friends under the year I graduated from my high school. I have notes to myself to further pursue some specific features that I think will prove to be useful. And yes, I would definitely take another course along these lines. Thanks Kam and CTLS for the chance to participate!

Podcasting

I'm familiar with some podcasting and need to spend more time looking at all the alternatives. Assuming I manage to finish the program in time, maybe I'll even have sometime to play the podcasts on other than my computer.

I tagged Libravox for future use. I was impressed with how many ways the book could be delivered and was readily able to listen to a chapter from Jo's Books. I think my 92 year old mom would enjoy this as well.

You tube

I've seen dozens of YouTube videos that friends have sent, when I wanted to catch up on some of the campaign news, when I wanted to watch the amazing US Airways flight, so am very familiar with the medium. I certainly enjoyed Round Rock's summer video which I had not seen before. I plan to ask all the creative folks in my library to come up with a fun video!

Zoho Writer Experiment

This is my 3rd attempt to write a word document with a phot and hopefully save it this time

Wikis and PB wikis

I definitely enjoyed this section more than some of the others. I waas particularly tickled with the video on the camping wiki since this will definitely work for a camping trip that involves coordinating 8 families from Texas, Oregon, California, New Mexico and will take place in Utah!

I read through some of the articles on Web 2.0 found through Academic Search Complete. I arbitrarily choose an article on Twitter and SMS. My instinct is to think that Twitter and SMS are not of particular value to libraries. I do think that IM has real possibilities in the reference area although we have very limited use of this option at Westbank despiste our best efforts to promote it.

I've wondered around these sites and suspect that I've only uncoverd about 10% of what is available. Spent a ridiculous amount of time reorganizing my bookmarks with Delicious. Just enjoyed the T-mobile ad and the introduction of Mac. Clearly could spend hours on this.
